Style Report: Menswear at the Globes.

Awards show season is a beautiful time of year.

While the ladies of the red carpet are often given the most attention, there is an entire world of fashion in  formal menswear. There is a multitude of decisions to be made–single breasted or double? Which accessories to choose, which to leave out. Color. Fit. Hair. The devil, as always, is in the details. It takes a thoughtful approach to create a true red-carpet masterpiece.

This year at the Golden Globes, we saw a range of style-successes and fashion-failures. From bold color choices to interesting accessories, the gentlemen of the red carpet did not disappoint. Here are a few of our favorites.

Ricky Gervais

Ricky Gervais was as fearless in his wardrobe as he was in his joke-delivery. A perfect choice for a host, Gervais' rich burgundy tuxedo with black accents stood out in the crowd. We would have added a simple black bow tie and more stylish shoes, but over-all, Gervais is a winner in our book.

Idris Elba

Idris Elba gets points for infusing his double breasted black tuxedo with as many details as possible. His tone-on-tone tie, unique peak lapel style, and his black lapel flower give his look visual interest without overwhelming. Nicely played, Mr. Elba, and congratulations on winning the Globe for best Actor!

Jake Gyllenhaal

Jake Gyllenhaal's double breasted tuxedo and perfectly proportioned bow tie create a black-tie look worth striving for. Nicely played, Mr. Gyllenhaal.

Matt LeBlanc

Matt LeBlanc opted for a beautiful navy tuxedo with wide peak lapels and a wide navy tie. The fit is solid, and we hear that's Zegna cloth. LeBlanc's confidence must have been at an all-time high as he accepted his Golden Globe.

Clooney & Pitt

George Clooney & Brad Pitt took a note from our friend, Scott Disick, and rocked the cane with their Golden Globes tuxedos. Both gentlemen could have found a better fit--pants a both a bit long, jackets both a bit baggy-- but we have to acknowledge their trend-setting move. Like it or not, the cane is the new must-have formal accessory.

Zooey Deschanel

We loved Zooey Deschanel's whimsical nod to menswear. Tuxedo nail polish on a gorgeous and elegantly dressed woman--the perfect touch for such a fun and likeable personality.

Agreed about Pitt and Clooney. I can’t believe those guys aren’t wearing custom tuxes. They look like they just stepped out of Mens Wearhouse.
